Tottenham boss: “Son Heung-min will miss Europa League clash with Alkmaar

Son Heung-min (Tottenham) will miss the European Football Association (UEFA) Europa League (UEL) match against AZ Alkmaar (Netherlands) after feeling unwell again.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Tottenham's 2024-2025 UEL League Phase 3 home match against AZ Alkmaar on Wednesday, head coach Anzhi Postecoglou said: “He felt a little bit of pain after the game last weekend. We're not going to send him out for the game, but we're going to monitor his condition.”

According to the club, Heung-min also missed training this morning.

It is believed that Son Heung-min, who put on a 'one-man show' in his return from injury after four games last weekend, felt unwell after the game.

Son has missed Tottenham's last three official matches since injuring his hamstring 토토사이트 (muscle behind the thigh) in a UEL match against Garabagh (Azerbaijan) on March 27.

He also missed the second leg of the third Asian qualifying round for the 2026 North and Central American World Cup, focusing on his recovery instead of joining Hong Myung-baek.

After recovering from his injury, Son returned to the starting lineup for Spurs' 2024-2025 English Premier League (EPL) Round 8 home match against West Ham United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, on Sept. 19, and put on a “one-man show,” scoring all three of the team's goals in the second half to lead Spurs to a 4-1 victory.

He played a key role in setting up Yves Bissouma's goal in the seventh minute of the second half after the score was tied at 1-1, then made it 3-1 with an own goal 10 minutes from time, before finding the back of the net himself with a left-footed strike in the 15th minute.

It was the perfect resurgence for Son, but he will be rested for the immediate future.

Meanwhile, Postecoglou said of Hicharlisson: “He trained well. He's definitely ready to play,” he said, hinting at a possible return.

Tottenham will face AZ Alkmaar at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, at 4:00 a.m. on April 25th.

Spurs have two wins and six points in the league phase and are fifth in the 36-team field.

Starting this season, the UEL will follow the same format as the Champions League (UCL), with 36 qualified teams competing in the league phase, playing eight games (four home and four away).

The top 1-8 teams will qualify directly to the round of 16, while the 9-24 teams will play a playoff with the winners joining the round of 16.
